U.S. Military Establishes Second Border Zone, Tightens Noose on Illegal Immigrants
The U.S. military, which last month set up a military zone in New Mexico, has now established another in Texas to intensify security measures along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a report by the English section of webangah News Agency citing Reuters via Mehr News Agency.
Reuters notes that American forces in this military zone can temporarily detain migrants or border violators.
since taking office in January 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump has launched an aggressive and hardline campaign against illegal immigrants, deploying additional troops to the southern border and vowing to deport millions who entered the country unlawfully.
In April, the Trump administration designated a 440-square-kilometer stretch along the New Mexico base as a “National Defense Zone.” the U.S.Army later announced it had established another such zone—the “Texas National Defense Zone”—spanning 63 miles from Texas to New Mexico near El Paso.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection holds jurisdiction over all illegal crossings in this area, with detained migrants handed over to border patrol or other enforcement agencies.
Per the U.S.Attorney’s Office, 82 migrants have so far been charged with illegally entering the New Mexico military zone. the purpose of these zones is to allow Trump’s administration to deploy troops for detaining migrants and suppressing potential civil unrest without invoking the Insurrection Act of 1807.
Government data shows approximately 11,900 troops are currently stationed along the U.S.-Mexico border—a period where March saw migrant apprehensions at their lowest level yet Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott affirmed last Thursday via images of razor-wire barriers that “Texas continues working with President Trump’s administration” to halt illegal immigration
