White House Rift Deepens Over Ukraine War Strategy as Diplomats Clash with Special Envoy

Internal divisions within the White House have escalated over how to end the Ukraine war, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkauf at odds over foreign policy approaches.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, reports indicate growing tensions within the White House regarding the strategy to conclude the Ukraine conflict. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy for Russia and Ukraine Steve Witkauf are locked in a serious disagreement over U.S. foreign policy direction.

NBC News reported that the rift between Rubio and Witkauf has posed a significant challenge to President Donald Trump’s administration’s approach to the Ukraine war. Witkauf, a close ally of Trump, advocates for a strategy that accepts Russia’s annexation of eastern Ukrainian territories and prioritizes a swift peace agreement. In contrast, Rubio insists on escalating political, economic, and military pressure on Moscow to force concessions and ensure Ukraine’s long-term security.

The divisions resurfaced after the inconclusive Miami summit on December 20-21. Informed sources reveal that Witkauf has repeatedly engaged with foreign counterparts without coordinating with the State Department, sparking frustration among Rubio and U.S. diplomatic officials.

Despite the White House’s public emphasis on unity, these disputes highlight deep fractures within Trump’s team over the future of the Ukraine war and Washington-Moscow relations.
