Iraqi Prime Minister Al-Sudani Visits Kurdistan Region to Resolve Presidential Crisis

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani traveled to the Kurdistan Region on Monday to mediate disputes among Kurdish parties over a unified presidential candidate, as the Iraqi parliament postpones the presidential election session.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani arrived in the Kurdistan Region on Monday, leading a high-level political delegation. The visit aims to address disagreements among Kurdish factions regarding a consensus candidate for Iraq’s presidency.

Abbas Radi, Secretary-General of the Coordination Framework, had previously announced the delegation’s planned meetings with Kurdish officials in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah. Sources within the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) stressed the necessity of reaching an agreement with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) to resolve the presidential crisis.

The diplomatic mission comes as Iraq’s parliament has delayed its session to elect a new president, underscoring ongoing political tensions.
