Dismissal of Trump’s Envoy to Iraq Signals US Policy Failure, Says Iraqi Official

The removal of Mark Sawaya as the US special envoy to Iraq reflects Washington’s inability to influence political decisions in the country, according to a member of Iraq’s Coordination Framework coalition.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ali Kazem, a member of Iraq‘s Coordination Framework coalition, stated that the US government’s decision to dismiss Mark Sawaya, Donald Trump’s envoy to Iraq, is a sign of Washington’s policy setbacks in the country.

Kazem added that this decision is a natural outcome of America’s failure to influence Iraq’s political decision-making processes.

He emphasized that the move amounts to a US admission of its inability to shape political developments in Iraq or succeed in changing the candidate for the country’s prime ministerial position.

Mark Sawaya, who was appointed by President Trump as the US special envoy for Iraqi affairs earlier this year, was recently removed from his position.
