Spain Tops European Unemployment Rates at 10% in December 2025

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, Spain emerged as the European country with the highest unemployment rate in December 2025, reaching 10%. Sweden followed with 8.8%, France with 7.7%, Greece with 7.5%, and Latvia with 7%, all reporting relatively elevated jobless figures.
In contrast, the Czech Republic registered the lowest unemployment rate at 3.1%, while Malta and Poland both recorded 3.2%, placing them among nations with the least unemployment.
Across the European Union, the overall unemployment rate remained steady at 5.9% in December, unchanged from the previous month and the same period in 2024. The Eurozone reported a 6.2% jobless rate.
Eurostat data revealed approximately 13.043 million unemployed individuals in the EU, including 10.792 million within the Eurozone. While unemployment decreased by 94,000 compared to November, it showed a year-on-year increase of 71,000.
Youth unemployment in the EU declined to 14.7% in December, down from 14.9% the previous month, with about 2.857 million under-25s jobless. The report also indicated a slight gender disparity, with women’s unemployment at 6% compared to men’s 5.8%.
