German President Steinmeier Condemns U.S.-Israel Actions Against Iran as Violation of International Law

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has explicitly described the military aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran as a violation of international law. This statement was published by Mehr News Agency, citing German media reports.
In an unusually direct address on Tuesday, Steinmeier termed the conflict a “catastrophic mistake” and clarified that, in his view, the action contravenes international law. He also questioned the premise for initiating the war, stating that the alleged justification of an “imminent threat” to American interests is unconvincing.
Media outlets report that these remarks represent some of the most direct criticism from Germany‘s highest ceremonial official regarding Washington’s approach in this conflict. Speaking at an event marking the 75th anniversary of the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin, the German President emphasized that if the aim of the war was to prevent what the West claims is “Iran’s move towards nuclear weapons,” then this conflict was avoidable and unnecessary.
Furthermore, he cautioned about the repercussions of this engagement on transatlantic relations, assessing it as an indicator of a widening rift between Europe and the United States.
