According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the downing of 272 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles. Russian air defense systems reportedly intercepted and destroyed these drones during the past night over several Russian regions. In related context, Russian President Vladimir Putin, on February 21, 2022, recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in the Donbas region, citing Western disregard for Moscow’s security concerns. Three days later, on February 24, 2022, President Putin initiated what he termed a “special military operation” against Ukraine, escalating the strained relationship between Moscow and Kyiv into military confrontation. In response to Russia’s actions, the United States and Western countries have imposed extensive sanctions on Moscow and provided billions of dollars in military aid to Kyiv.
