North Korea Condemns U.S. Arms Sale to South Korea, Citing Escalating Tensions

North Korea’s Foreign Ministry has denounced the United States’ approval of an arms sale to South Korea, asserting that the move will heighten tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Korea has condemned the United States’ approval of the sale of air-to-air missiles and other military equipment to South Korea, as reported by RT, citing data published by Mehr News Agency.

The ministry stated that the U.S. approval of this action will exacerbate tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

Approximately one week prior, the U.S. Department of State announced its approval of a potential sale of Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs) and related equipment to South Korea. The estimated value of this transaction is around $106 million, and it still requires completion of notification and review processes in the U.S. Congress.

According to the U.S. Department of State, South Korea has requested the purchase of 708 seeker kits and 58 bomb guidance sets for JDAMs, along with support equipment and technical, engineering, and logistical services.

Washington stated that this transaction will help bolster South Korea’s defense capabilities and enhance the military readiness of this key Asian ally.
