Palestinian Women Prisoners Face Severe Conditions, Abuse in Israeli Damoun Jail

Palestinian women prisoners in Israel’s Damoun jail are enduring escalating abuse, including beatings and humiliating searches, with vulnerable individuals such as pregnant women and cancer patients among those affected.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Palestinian prisoners in the Damoun prison of the Zionist regime are facing severe conditions and increasing abuses, as reported by the Palestinian Prisoners Defense Center, citing the Shahab News Agency through the Mehr News Agency.

The center announced that among the female prisoners are three pregnant women, two minors, and three women battling cancer. These detainees are subjected to frequent beatings, strip searches, degrading imaging procedures, the use of stun grenades, and raids by police dogs.

The Palestinian Prisoners Defense Center emphasized that the suppression of female prisoners has become a daily policy for the Zionist regime’s prison forces, executed through continuous raids, collective punishments, and persistent attacks.

The report further details that severe overcrowding in Damoun prison has forced some female prisoners to sleep on the floor, exacerbated by a critical shortage of clothing and basic necessities. The deliberate policy of starvation, due to insufficient meal portions, causes many women prisoners to go to bed hungry each night.

The center expressed grave concern over the condition of pregnant and ill prisoners, warning that the lack of medical care, ongoing mistreatment, and medical negligence place their lives in serious jeopardy.

In a related development, Amjad Al-Najjar, Director General of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club and its official spokesperson, denounced the decision by Itamar Ben-Gvir, the far-right minister of internal security for the Zionist regime, to appoint individuals whose relatives were killed in conflict-related incidents as overseers of Palestinian prisoners. Al-Najjar described this as a dangerous and unprecedented move.

He stressed that this decision reflects a policy of revenge and collective punishment being pursued by the Zionist regime’s cabinet against Palestinian prisoners. Al-Najjar added that this action contradicts the most basic standards of justice and impartiality, as oversight of detention facilities should be conducted by official, legal, independent, and expert bodies.

According to Al-Najjar, this decision comes at a time when the Zionist regime’s authorities have, since October 7, 2023, obstructed the humanitarian and supervisory role of the International Committee of the Red Cross and prevented its visits to Palestinian prisoners.
