Iran-US Technical Talks Begin Sunday in Switzerland, Pakistan to Participate

Technical negotiations between Iran and the United States, aimed at following up on the implementation of the ‘Islamabad’ memorandum of understanding, will commence on Sunday in Switzerland. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir are slated to attend the discussions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office announced in a statement that technical talks to follow up on the implementation of the “Islamabad” memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States will be held tomorrow (Sunday) in Switzerland. The Prime Minister’s office further stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with Army Chief General Asim Munir, will participate in the negotiations between Iran and the U.S.

In a televised interview, Ismail Baqaei, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded to a question regarding the objectives of the Iranian negotiation delegation’s trip to Switzerland in the coming hours. He stated, “This trip is essentially aimed at pursuing the fulfillment of the other party’s commitments. Any understanding, any agreement is tested at the time of implementation. Given our experience with the other party’s breaches of contract, we must, as a matter of course, demand strongly and seriously during the implementation phase.”

He emphasized, “This trip is, in fact, a journey to demand the fulfillment of the other party’s commitments. The memorandum of understanding is very clear.”

Baqaei elaborated that negotiations for a final agreement will commence once the implementation of commitments, according to clauses 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11, has begun and continues. “Unfortunately, we are not witnessing that situation; therefore, in this trip and in these negotiations, we are to be assertive in demanding the implementation of the other party’s commitments and to clarify how the other party intends to fulfill its obligations,” he added.
