Nabil Fahmy Appointed Secretary-General of the Arab League by Unanimous Vote

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Arab League, during its 165th session held today in Amman, the capital of Jordan, unanimously appointed Nabil Fahmy as Secretary-General of the Arab League for a five-year term.
Fahmy’s official tenure will commence on July 1, 2026.
Fahmy previously served as Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, first under the government of Hazem el-Beblawi and subsequently under Ibrahim Mahlab, starting in July 2013.
He also served as Egypt’s ambassador to the United States for a nine-year period, from 1999 to 2008. The September 11, 2001 attacks occurred during his tenure at the Egyptian Embassy in Washington.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the appointment, stating that it reflects Egypt’s position and role in the Arab world, as well as the trust of Arab countries in Fahmy’s experience and long diplomatic background.
Cairo expressed its hope that the new Secretary-General of the Arab League will contribute to strengthening Arab cooperation, developing joint coordination mechanisms, preserving the national security of Arab countries, and achieving the aspirations of Arab peoples for stability, development, and prosperity.
