US Senate Votes to Limit Trump’s War Powers Against Iran

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, US Senator Bernie Sanders has reacted to the passage of a resolution limiting war powers in the Senate, stating that Congress has finally taken a step it should have initiated months ago by voting to call on Trump to end the war with Iran.
The senior senator from Vermont wrote on the social media platform X that the Constitution clearly stipulates that presidents cannot unilaterally lead the nation into war, emphasizing that this responsibility lies with Congress, which has now accepted its duty.
The US Senate hours earlier approved a plan that prohibits US President Donald Trump from conducting any military operation against Iran unless he receives authorization from Congress beforehand.
The war powers resolution passed the US Senate with 50 votes in favor and 48 against.
The bill was drafted within the framework of the War Powers Act and underscores Congress’s role in decision-making regarding US entry into military conflicts.
Previously, the US House of Representatives had also voted in favor of a resolution by Democrats to limit Trump’s war powers against Iran.
