US Secretary of State Rubio: Lebanon-Israel Deal Paves Way for Trilateral Military Cooperation

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the agreement between Israel and Lebanon provides a foundation for a U.S.-led trilateral military cooperation group to implement the accord, while also asserting it opens a path for Lebanon’s sovereignty and Hezbollah’s disarmament.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the agreement between Israel and Lebanon lays the groundwork for the formation of a joint trilateral military cooperation group led by Washington, enabling both parties to implement the accord.

Rubio claimed that the United States reiterates its commitment to strengthening the capabilities of the Lebanese army to enable it to extend governmental sovereignty over all Lebanese territories.

Stating that “this agreement charts a path to ending the conflict,” Rubio asserted that it also establishes a mechanism for restoring Lebanese sovereignty, disarming Hezbollah, and dismantling its military structure.

The U.S. Secretary of State further added that the agreement would allow Israel to return to its borders after the threat posed by Hezbollah to Israelis is removed.

He concluded by announcing his country’s readiness to assist the Lebanese army, stating that the U.S. Department of War, based on approved appropriations, is prepared to allocate over $30 million to the Lebanese army.

Rubio’s remarks come amidst protests in the streets of southern Beirut’s Dahieh against the framework agreement with the Zionist regime, which the Lebanese people refer to as a step towards normalization of relations with the Zionist regime.

According to reports, Lebanese individuals have condemned the Lebanese government’s agreement with the United States and Israel through these demonstrations.
