Israeli Media Express Skepticism Over Lebanon Deal’s Viability

Israeli media outlets are casting doubt on the sustainability and effectiveness of the ‘Framework Agreement’ between Lebanon and Israel, questioning its potential for successful implementation and highlighting inherent challenges.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli media outlets have analyzed the ‘Framework Agreement’ between the Lebanese government and the Israeli regime, expressing reservations about its implementability.

The Israeli newspaper Maariv, in an article by analyst Ben Caspit, described the agreement with Lebanon as a “wedding without a bride.” The publication suggested that the deal offers minimal gains for Israel and is precarious, akin to being “written on ice,” making it vulnerable to dissolution and lacking guarantees.

Maariv posited that for the agreement to succeed, the internal Lebanese situation concerning Hezbollah would need to be resolved, a task that no one possesses the capacity or time to accomplish.

Similarly, the newspaper Israel Hayom reported that while the Israeli security establishment supports the agreement signed with the Lebanese government, it harbors doubts about its success. The paper warned that the path to implementing the agreement between Tel Aviv and Beirut is protracted and fraught with obstacles, diminishing the likelihood of its successful execution.

Moshe Dayan Center researcher Michael Milstein from Tel Aviv University emphasized that the document signed was not a peace accord but a security memorandum at the ambassadorial level, noting that even Lebanese officials do not refer to it as a peace agreement.

Yair Golan, head of the Democratic Party in Israel, characterized the agreement between Tel Aviv and Beirut as a misleading spectacle intended to obscure facts. Golan expressed doubt that the Lebanese government could uphold the terms of the agreement, viewing it as another instance of the Netanyahu cabinet’s irresponsibility.

The United States announced the achievement of a “Framework Agreement” between Lebanon and Israel last Friday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the agreement as an accomplishment for Tel Aviv and affirmed the continuation of occupation in southern Lebanon.

The agreement has faced widespread public opposition and protests across various regions of Lebanon, with popular movements, political factions, and prominent figures declaring their firm disapproval of the proceedings.
