Lebanese Parliament Member Dismisses Maritime Deal with Israel as Ineffective

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, citing Al-Nashra, Ali Al-Meqdad, a member of the Loyalty to Resistance bloc in the Lebanese Parliament, commented on the recent maritime agreement with Israel. He suggested that the Israeli delegation in Washington was essentially negotiating with itself, or rather, with a political entity that aligns with Israeli ambitions and its agenda, which targets Lebanon‘s sovereignty and a significant portion of its population.
Al-Meqdad elaborated that in this “dark era,” the nation has reached a point where its own citizens are aligning with the Israeli enemy against their country, favoring what is termed peace and an end to hostilities with Zionists who continue to occupy Lebanese territories, kill its people, devastate the country, violate its air, sea, and land sovereignty, and covet its resources.
The Lebanese parliamentarian emphasized that the signed agreement is merely “ink on paper” and was signed concurrently with the martyrdom of six Lebanese citizens. He asserted that this agreement will never be implemented, having lost its credibility even before its ink dried.
Al-Meqdad further stated that what the enemy could not achieve on the battlefield, it is attempting to achieve through a “shameful and ignominious framework agreement.” He warned that if officials do not retract decisions that contradict the constitution and the formula of coexistence, the country will be led into significant trouble.
He clarified that considerable efforts were made throughout Friday night to prevent the worsening and escalation of the situation on the streets. Al-Meqdad expressed confidence in the Lebanese Army Command, which he believes opposes sedition and confrontation with the people.
