US Denies Venezuelan Opposition Leader’s Return Request Amid Crisis

The Trump administration has reportedly rejected a request from Venezuelan opposition leader María Machado to facilitate her return to the country, citing concerns about her potential impact on U.S. relations with Caracas.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the New York Times, citing its sources, reported that Venezuelan opposition leader María Machado requested U.S. officials to facilitate her return to Venezuela following devastating earthquakes in the country. However, Washington rejected her request.

The report indicated that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump rejected her requests, describing them as bothersome. Some U.S. administration officials reportedly expressed doubts about whether Machado could revive relations with Washington.

The report stated that the White House preferred to cooperate with current Venezuelan officials in its relations with Caracas. This comes as Machado had previously offered her Nobel Prize to Trump in an attempt to gain his favor.
