UAE Quietly Building Strategic Military Base in Somaliland for U.S. and Israel: Le Monde Report
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, French newspaper Le Monde has disclosed that the United Arab Emirates is converting Berbera Airport in Somaliland into a significant strategic military base in proximity to the Bab al-Mandab Strait. This initiative is reportedly part of a broader security cooperation with the United States and the Israeli regime.
The report, titled “UAE Quietly Building Military Base in Somaliland for U.S. and Israel,” highlights the immense importance of the location due to its adjacency to one of the world’s most vital maritime passages. This waterway connects the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, serving as a primary artery for trade and energy supply between Asia and Europe.
The port and airport of Berbera are considered among the most critical strategic points in the region. Their proximity to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, through which a substantial percentage of global trade passes and oil shipments transit, underscores their geopolitical significance.
According to the French newspaper, security cooperation between the Israeli regime and Somaliland has expanded through high-level meetings between military and intelligence delegations. This collaboration also involves training Somaliland officers in occupied territories and visits by Israeli military teams to facilities in Berbera.
Le Monde further added that the UAE has been consistently strengthening its presence in the Horn of Africa for years, primarily through investments in ports and infrastructure.
