Israeli Municipality Advances West Jerusalem Settlement Plan in East Jerusalem Neighborhood

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Israeli Municipality’s planning and construction committee in Jerusalem has finalized a plan to advance settlement construction in the heart of East Jerusalem, specifically targeting the Umm Lisun neighborhood. This initiative seeks to fundamentally change the demographic and spatial character of the area.
The Umm Lisun neighborhood currently comprises approximately 800 Palestinian housing units. The new plan involves the construction of 10-story buildings, which is expected to accommodate around 2,000 Israeli settlers in a region that is currently entirely Palestinian.
The Israeli legal organization Ir Amim has issued warnings regarding the severe implications of this project, labeling it as the largest settlement plan within a Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem. The organization stated that this move will not only shift the area’s population balance in favor of Israeli settlers but will also directly threaten regional stability by exacerbating friction between residents.
Following a two-year hiatus attributed to infrastructural challenges, the settlement plan has now received the green light from Israeli authorities and is proceeding to the implementation phase.
