Pentagon Identifies U.S. Service Member Killed in Erbil, Iraq

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the identity of the U.S. service member who lost their life in northern Iraq during an operation involving the controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian drone has been confirmed. The news was reported by the Associated Press, citing data published by the Mehr News Agency.

The U.S. Department of Defense, also known as the Pentagon, announced that Sergeant Michael Emmanuel Swinton, a resident of Fayetteville, North Carolina, died on Saturday at Erbil Air Base. Swinton was 30 years old and a member of the U.S. Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command.

Lieutenant General John L. Rafferty stated in a release that the service member died “during an operation.”
