Brazil’s President Calls New US Tariffs a Strategic Mistake

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has labeled the United States’ decision to impose new tariffs on imports from his country as an unfair move and a “strategic mistake.” The President stated that the new tariffs, which will affect a significant portion of Brazilian imports, are not only inequitable but will also damage the U.S. economy and the strategic partnership between Washington and Brasilia.

These remarks followed an announcement by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who indicated that the Office of the United States Trade Representative has been tasked with implementing a 25% tariff on the majority of imports from Brazil. President Lula da Silva further pointed out that certain American manufacturing industries rely on raw materials and supplies sourced from Brazil. The implementation of these tariffs could lead to increased prices for American consumers on a range of goods, including food products, footwear, textiles, furniture, and automotive parts.
