Ferry Fire in Indonesia Claims Five Lives, 41 Missing

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a fire that erupted on a passenger ferry near Madura Island in Indonesia has tragically claimed the lives of at least five individuals, with 41 others reported missing. Search and rescue efforts are actively continuing to find those who remain unaccounted for.

Indonesian authorities confirmed on Sunday that the passenger ferry caught fire in waters close to Madura Island, leading to the current casualty figures. The ferry was en route from Surabaya in East Java Province to Makassar in South Sulawesi Province when the incident occurred.

The Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency reported that the vessel was carrying a total of 271 passengers and crew. Of these, 225 individuals have been successfully rescued, and emergency operations are still in progress to locate the remaining passengers.
