Yemen Criticizes UN Security Council for Hypocrisy and Inaction
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Yemen‘s foreign ministry, affiliated with the Ansar Allah government in Sana’a, has sharply criticized the United Nations Security Council for its inconsistent actions and perceived hypocrisy. In a statement released on Saturday, the ministry highlighted what it described as the council’s own violations of the very rights it purports to champion, asserting that it should prioritize and uphold the human rights of nations and ensure justice.
The ministry elaborated that if the Security Council were genuinely committed to fostering international security and peace, its member states would not engage in initiating wars, occupying countries, or infringing upon the rights of peoples.
Furthermore, the Yemeni foreign ministry addressed the council’s position on preserving Yemen’s sovereignty and independence, emphasizing the paradox of the council taking actions that simultaneously undermine Yemeni sovereignty and deny the rights of its citizens, describing this as an unprecedented contradiction.
The statement suggested that Yemen is aware of the motivations behind such predetermined and pre-paid stances, questioning whether occupying countries, plundering wealth, denying national rights, and committing genocide align with the UN Charter.
The statement also referenced resolutions issued by the Security Council to support the Palestinian people against the actions of occupiers, noting the council’s inability to implement these resolutions since 1948.
In another segment of its statement, the Yemeni foreign ministry pointed to Saudi Arabia’s financial influence in international dealings, arguing that it erodes the foundational principles of international institutions. It posed a question regarding whether the Security Council is aware that Saudi warplanes have violated Yemeni airspace since March 26, 2015, and targeted Sana’a airport on July 13, 2026.
During their session on Friday, Security Council members condemned the landing of aircraft at Sana’a and Hodeidah airports, labeling it a violation of international civil aviation rules, without mentioning Saudi transgressions. They also condemned Sana’a’s attacks on Saudi Arabia and its targeting of Saudi-affiliated vessels.
