Gaza Interior Ministry Condemns Assassination of Provincial Police Chief
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Gaza‘s Ministry of Interior and National Security has issued a strong condemnation following the assassination of Colonel Jamal Abu Kmeil, the head of the Gaza province police force. Abu Kmeil was killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted his vehicle on Al-Rasheed Street in Gaza City.
The Ministry of Interior characterized this latest incident as a dangerous aggression, highlighting Israel’s persistent efforts to target the pillars of civilian police work in the Gaza Strip. This action, it stated, is part of a broader strategy to sow disorder within Palestinian society.
The statement emphasized that this unjustified crime occurs amidst ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement by Tel Aviv, at a time when all parties are striving to consolidate the truce. This, the ministry asserted, demonstrates Israel’s deliberate intent to thwart the efforts of mediators and obstruct the achievement of a lasting ceasefire.
Gaza’s Ministry of Interior declared the assassination of the provincial police chief a flagrant violation of international law, which prohibits the targeting of police institutions as civil protection organizations. This assassination follows closely on the heels of the killing of the head of the North Gaza province police just under three weeks ago, and prior to that, the assassination of the director of the police center in the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip, along with six other officers and personnel.
The ministry reiterated its urgent appeal to the international community and the mediating countries in the ceasefire agreement to intervene immediately to end the ongoing Israeli aggressions and halt attacks against the police institution, its officers, and personnel.
