Three Executions Carried Out in U.S. States on Same Day

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a recent report citing Al Jazeera indicates that two U.S. states, Tennessee and Oklahoma, carried out executions of two inmates within a 30-minute interval, with Alabama following suit hours later on the same day. While the coincidence of these executions might appear random, it underscores a significant increase in capital punishment nationwide. This trend has been particularly noticeable during the current administration.

In 2025, a total of 47 individuals were executed across 11 U.S. states. This figure represents the highest number of executions since 2009, when 52 prisoners were put to death. American media outlets reported that Tennessee executed 66-year-old Anthony Dewayne Dugard Haynes on Thursday. In Oklahoma, 70-year-old Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez, convicted of murder stemming from a 2003 shooting incident, was also executed. Additionally, Alabama carried out the execution of 42-year-old Jeremy Williams via lethal injection.

Florida led the nation in executions in 2025, with 19 individuals put to death. Alabama, South Carolina, and Texas followed, each executing five inmates. Last year, 39 executions were conducted through lethal injection. Three executions involved firing squads, and five utilized a method of suffocation, which involves administering nitrogen gas through a mask placed over the inmate’s face, leading to asphyxiation. The United Nations has previously condemned the use of nitrogen gas as a cruel and inhumane method of execution.
