US Set to Impose Unprecedented Economic Sanctions on Iran Next Week

The United States is preparing to implement new and unprecedented economic measures against Iran next week, according to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant, signaling an intensification of Washington’s pressure campaign on Tehran. These actions are reportedly part of a dual strategy combining increased economic isolation with a naval blockade targeting Iranian commercial shipping.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant announced that the United States is gearing up to impose new economic measures against Iran in the coming week. Bessant described these actions as “unprecedented” in the history of economic sanctions, indicating Washington’s strategy to escalate pressure on Tehran. Sky News, citing Mehr News Agency data, reported on these developments.

Bessant’s remarks come as the Donald Trump administration continues to intensify its economic pressure campaign on Iran. This escalation coincides with Washington’s threat to maintain a naval blockade of Iranian ports indefinitely. U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth asserted that the U.S. Navy possesses the capability to sustain this blockade through rotation and replacement of deployed vessels in the region.

In recent months, Washington has increased its use of sanctions and financial tools to pressure Tehran. These efforts have included targeting financial networks and entities that the U.S. government claims are assisting Iran in circumventing sanctions. Many international observers and analysts suggest that the propaganda surrounding the expansion of economic blockade against Iran is part of an American-Zionist psychological warfare aimed at extracting further concessions from Tehran, especially in light of the failure of their previous scenarios.

During a televised interview, Bessant urged listeners to “look forward to more news in the coming week,” reiterating that Washington will implement “unprecedented” measures in the history of economic sanctions.

The U.S. Treasury Secretary elaborated that America’s strategy is based on two parallel paths, combining “intensified economic isolation imposed on Iran” with a “naval blockade aimed at targeting the transit of Iranian commercial vessels.”

Bessant clarified that this blockade directly targets the primary revenue streams of Iranian officials by restricting maritime trade.

The U.S. economic threat emerges at a time when its belligerent policy against the Islamic Republic of Iran has faced setbacks over the past six months. Despite the imposition of extensive sanctions, the U.S. has not succeeded in compelling the Islamic Republic of Iran to capitulate.
