Iran Prepares for Long-Term Confrontation with US, Israel, Former US Diplomat Claims

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, former US diplomat Alon Eyal told Al Jazeera that Iran is preparing for a long-term confrontation with the United States and the Israeli regime. Eyal stated that Iran does not intend to provide the United States with breathing room by reopening the Strait of Hormuz or accepting a comprehensive ceasefire.

Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized their unwillingness to escalate the conflict, asserting that the United States must pay the price for its belligerence by accepting Tehran’s conditions. Eyal further commented that the current US administration lacks both the capacity and the inclination for serious and sustained nuclear negotiations with Iran. He suggested the administration’s primary objective is to exit the current situation, declare victory, and then move on to other issues, which complicates the prospect of achieving a long-term agreement.

Eyal indicated that Iran is preparing to remain on alert. Recent military appointments in Iran, including that of Mohsen Rezaei, do not signal a sudden shift in Tehran’s strategy but rather reinforce a trend that emerged after the US and Israeli regimes’ aggression against Iran on February 28. He added that Iran has assumed operational control of the Strait of Hormuz, driven by reasons such as strategic deterrence and potential economic benefits. A return to the previous state, where approximately 130 ships transited the strait daily, seems unlikely. A partial reopening of the strait under Iranian control may be the most attainable outcome in the current phase.
