New York Times: US Carrier Lincoln Faced Logistics Crisis After Iran Crippled Fifth Fleet in Bahrain

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the American newspaper The New York Times stated that the logistical problems of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier commenced immediately after Iran, in retaliation for the attack by the United States and the Zionist regime on Tehran, destroyed a major part of the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.

This report indicates that with the destruction of this base, one of the primary logistics hubs that the Navy had relied upon for decades was also eliminated.

According to The New York Times, following these attacks, the U.S. Navy required a “Plan B” to continue supplying the needs of the sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. Despite threats of Iranian attacks on other regional ports, the Pentagon designated a British-commanded base on the island of Diego Garcia as its supply hub. This island, located south of the Maldives and approximately 2,200 miles from the operational area of the two carrier strike groups in the Gulf of Oman, also later became a target of missile attacks.

The report further states that the loss of the Bahrain hub has exacerbated a series of reported issues for support ships involved in operations against Iran. In this regard, Democratic senators have expressed concerns about the 5,000 crew members of the Lincoln and their nearly nine-month deployment.

Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, stated in a letter to U.S. Secretary of War Pete Haggett that the reported problems include shortages of essential items and the deterioration of crew members’ mental health.
