Massive Wildfire Threatens German Border, Evacuations Underway

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, significant forest fires have dangerously expanded along the border between Belgium and Germany in recent hours, compelling authorities in both countries to implement measures including calls for resident evacuations. City officials near the German border in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia requested residents of several residential areas to be prepared for evacuation on Saturday evening. This request was issued due to a new fire breaking out in the Hohes Venn region, close to the border areas and within Belgium. On the Belgian side, evacuation operations for residents of the towns of Kelmis and Lontzen commenced today. The forest fire, which originated in Belgium near the border with Germany, has so far damaged approximately 2,000 hectares. Belgian officials have characterized this wildfire as the largest in the country’s history. Belgium had previously requested assistance from other member states of the European Union.
