Hamas Political Chief Consults with Egyptian Intelligence Head in Cairo

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a knowledgeable source within the Hamas movement revealed that a Hamas delegation headed by Khalil al-Hayya, chief of the movement’s political bureau, held a meeting with Hassan Rashad, the head of Egyptian intelligence. The report, citing Al-Arabiya, indicated that no details regarding the topics discussed or the outcomes of the talks between the two sides have been released to date.

This visit is significant as it represents al-Hayya’s inaugural trip to Cairo since his appointment to his current position. The Hamas delegation accompanying al-Hayya included Mohammed Darwish, head of the Hamas Shura Council; Khaled Meshaal, the head of Hamas abroad; Zaher Jabarin, head of the movement in the West Bank; and Basem Na’im, head of Hamas’s office for Arab and Islamic relations.

The trip is understood to be part of ongoing Egyptian efforts aimed at consolidating the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
