Iraq Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaydi: Hormuz Strait Closure Poses Major Challenge

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaydi has asserted that his government has no intention of engaging in military confrontation with armed groups, confirming that constructive dialogue is underway regarding the consolidation of weapons under state authority. He further explained that some factions have already surrendered their weapons, severed independent affiliations, and joined the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), while negotiations with other groups are ongoing. Al-Zaydi highlighted a consensus among all political streams to advance the process of arms consolidation, with mechanisms for their handover currently being developed.
Prime Minister Al-Zaydi also declared that there will be no retreat in the fight against corruption, underscoring the government’s extensive support from political forces. He acknowledged the challenging regional circumstances, specifically noting that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz constitutes a major challenge. He pointed out that alternative options for Iraq’s oil exports are temporary and limited, with current export volumes at approximately 10 percent of normal levels.
The Iraqi Prime Minister added that Iraq is transitioning from a conflict-ridden region to a bridge for understanding, and stressed that the country will not serve as a theater for settling scores. The report notes that the Strait of Hormuz was secure and traffic flowed smoothly and safely prior to the American-Zionist aggression against Iran.
