Trump Envoy Admits Golan Heights Belong to Syria, Labels Israel as Occupier

A former special envoy for President Donald Trump has acknowledged that the Israeli occupation of Syria’s Golan Heights violates international law and UN resolutions, stating the territory rightfully belongs to Syria.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a former special envoy for President Donald Trump to Syria and Iraq has admitted that the Israeli occupation of Syria’s Golan Heights is ongoing and contrary to international resolutions. Tom Barakat, speaking in an interview with Kulch Report, stated that the Zionist entity continues to occupy the Syrian Golan Heights, an occupation that contravenes UN resolutions and the international order which asserts that the Golan belongs to Syria.

This statement by the American official comes despite the Trump administration’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights in 2019 during its first presidential term. It also occurs in the context of ongoing Israeli aggressions in the region and Tel Aviv’s occupation policies, which are often carried out with Washington’s coordination and green light.

All United Nations resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 497 issued in 1981, emphasize the occupation of the Syrian Golan by the Israeli regime. In 2025, Asaad Al-Shaybani, the foreign minister of the Golan regime, called for an Israeli withdrawal to the June 4, 1967 lines during a Security Council session.

This assertion stands in contrast to repeated claims by Benjamin Netanyahu, who has maintained that the Golan belongs to occupied territories and that the Israeli regime will not withdraw from the area.
