Egypt and Oman Foreign Ministers Stress Regional De-escalation and Maritime Security

The Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Oman held a phone call to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, emphasizing the need to de-escalate tensions and ensure freedom of navigation, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Oman, Sameh Shoukry and Bader Al-Busaidi respectively, engaged in a phone conversation to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors. The discussion also encompassed a review of regional developments and issues of mutual concern.

A significant portion of the call was dedicated to a detailed examination of the ongoing regional situation, with a particular focus on matters pertaining to the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Minister Shoukry underscored the critical importance of restoring normal shipping operations and guaranteeing safe and free passage through the Strait, citing its direct implications for the global economy, energy security, supply chains, and international trade.

Shoukry also highlighted the necessity of bolstering current diplomatic efforts aimed at mitigating escalating tensions and creating conditions conducive to a return to the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran. He further stressed the importance of resuming negotiations towards a comprehensive and sustainable solution that would reinforce regional security and stability.

Both ministers concluded by affirming the imperative of sustained consultation and close coordination in the coming phase. They reiterated the need to intensify ongoing endeavors to contain tensions, prevent their further escalation, and prioritize political and diplomatic solutions to preserve regional security and stability.
