Sudanese Army Downs Hostile Drone Over Al-Karamak

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, The Sudanese Army has reported the downing of a hostile drone over the Al-Karamak region in the Blue Nile State, located in southeastern Sudan and bordering Ethiopia. A senior Sudanese military source informed Al Jazeera that the army’s air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed a long-range drone belonging to the Rapid Support Forces.
The drone had allegedly been targeting Sudanese army positions within the strategically important city of Al-Karamak before being engaged and neutralized by air defenses. Al-Karamak’s proximity to Ethiopia, approximately 99 kilometers from Assosa, and its distance from the state capital of Ed Damazine, about 136 kilometers, makes it a critical hub for military logistics and a key transit point for supply lines.
The ongoing armed conflict in Sudan erupted on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese Army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, widely known as Hemedti. The power struggle has persisted despite numerous international mediation efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and initiating dialogue between the warring factions. These diplomatic endeavors have thus far failed to yield a lasting resolution.
The United Nations has reported that the conflict between Sudan’s two major military forces has resulted in the displacement of eight million people amid escalating violence and widespread hunger. Approximately 25 million individuals, nearly half of Sudan’s population, are in dire need of urgent humanitarian assistance due to the protracted war, with an additional 18 million facing the threat of famine.
Several internationally brokered ceasefires have been declared in Sudan; however, all parties involved have consistently violated these agreements, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
