Lebanese President: Israel Continues Aggression and Violates Agreement

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Lebanese President Michel Aoun held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands to discuss the political and security situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as bilateral relations and avenues for strengthening cooperation.

During the meeting, President Aoun asserted that Israel continues to violate the framework agreement established during the Lebanon-US-Israel negotiations in Washington. He cited ongoing Israeli bombardments and the destruction of occupied southern villages as evidence of these transgressions.

The President emphasized that the Lebanese army is fully fulfilling its duties in the redeployment zones, dismissing any claims to the contrary as attempts to tarnish the army’s reputation and undermine its commitment to the decisions of political authorities.

Aoun clarified that the reconstruction of southern Lebanon is the responsibility of the Lebanese government, but this undertaking cannot be realized under the continued occupation by Israel.

Furthermore, the Lebanese President reiterated the country’s insistence on the continued presence of UNIFIL forces in the south, acknowledging their crucial role. He added that if extending UNIFIL’s mission proves unfeasible, Lebanon would welcome any brotherly nation or friendly country willing to complement UNIFIL’s actions, particularly in providing humanitarian, social, health, and educational support to the army and residents of the south. Consultations are underway to find a legal framework for such an international presence.
