Russia States NATO Would Not Back Turkey Against Israel Amid Escalating Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia has indicated that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) would not provide support to Turkey in the event of escalating tensions with Israel. Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asserted that NATO, being entirely under American command, would refrain from backing Ankara because Washington would not permit the alliance to act against its crucial ally, Israel.

Recent months have witnessed a significant deterioration in relations between Turkey and Israel. The disagreements between the two nations have expanded beyond the conflict in Gaza to encompass a strategic rivalry concerning Syria.

Turkish officials have declared that the normalization of relations with Tel Aviv is contingent upon a cessation of the killing of Palestinians and an improvement in the conditions within Gaza. Concurrently, the two countries hold differing views on Turkey’s role and presence in Syria. Israel is actively seeking to prevent the expansion of Turkey’s military and political influence in Syria, a development that has become a primary source of friction between Ankara and Tel Aviv.

Given Israel’s occupation of parts of Syrian territory and its efforts to exert influence in the country, experts do not rule out the possibility of a military confrontation between Tel Aviv and Ankara.
