Bahrain Declines Participation in Oman’s Hormuz Strait Summit

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the country will not participate in a proposed ministerial meeting focused on developments in the Strait of Hormuz. This decision stems from Bahrain’s stance that it will not attend any session involving Iran until diplomatic relations between the two nations are restored.

The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this position had been officially communicated to Omani authorities. The ministry clarified that this refusal does not signify a disregard for Muscat’s sincere efforts or Manama’s commitment to dialogue as a means of resolving disputes. However, it emphasized that dialogue cannot be built upon ignoring realities.

The ministry further elaborated that any framework concerning shipping in the Strait of Hormuz must adhere to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Such a framework, it stated, must be approved by the International Maritime Organization and guarantee the right of transit passage for all vessels without discrimination, levies, or the need for permits. Bahrain is not closing the door to peace, but it will not open it at the cost of disregarding rights, as peace not founded on justice is merely a temporary truce.
