Iraqi Politicians Criticize Baghdad’s Move Against Iran

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi politicians have sharply criticized Baghdad’s recent decision to close border crossings with Iran, asserting that the move is misguided and carries significant negative repercussions. Mohammad Al-Baldawi, a Member of Parliament, stated that the decision to seal the borders with Iran was incorrect and rushed, demanding an immediate review. He highlighted the dangerous negative consequences of this decision on economic, security, and humanitarian levels, suggesting it would have been better if the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces had not paid attention to Saudi Arabia’s unsubstantiated claims without solid evidence.

Hamed Al-Fatlawi, another Iraqi representative, emphasized that this action is detrimental to the country, given Iraq’s extensive reliance on imports. He added that the measure is temporary and will be rescinded in the coming days due to Iraq’s unfavorable economic conditions. Ahmed Abdulsattar Al-Saadi, a member of the Anbar coalition, contended that the move was instigated by American demands rather than Iraqi interests, noting that Iraqi markets depend heavily on goods imported from Iran.

Amir Al-Saadi, an Iraqi political and strategic affairs expert, advised that the Baghdad government should rely on solid evidence and substantiated proof in such matters. Yesterday, Sabah Al-Nuaman, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, announced that the measures concerning the border crossings are temporary and undertaken for the purpose of assessing the situation. It is noteworthy that Iraq’s action followed claims made by Riyadh alleging an attack originating from Iraqi territory against Saudi Arabia’s oil pipeline.
