Zelensky Sanctions 10 Ukrainian Figures, Including Former Spokesperson

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a decree sanctioning 10 Ukrainian figures, including his former spokesperson Yulia Mendel. The sanctions, which are valid for 10 years, involve asset freezes and trade restrictions against the targeted individuals.

The Ukrainian Presidential Office stated that the measure was taken to preserve national security and counter individuals who support Russia’s policies towards Ukraine through the dissemination of false information. Yulia Mendel, who served as Zelensky’s spokesperson from 2019 to 2021, reacted to the decision on Facebook, expressing disappointment and asserting that sanctioning Ukrainian citizens is contrary to the country’s constitution. Mendel, who had previously criticized the Zelensky administration’s performance and corruption allegations among the president’s inner circle, described her sanctioning as a political move.

The Ukrainian government has previously imposed sanctions on some political figures, citing security issues. Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is among those who have previously faced sanctions, including asset freezes.
