North Korea Declares Nuclear Status ‘Definitive and Unchangeable’
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, North Korea has condemned the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference session that addressed the country’s nuclear disarmament, declaring that Pyongyang’s status as a nuclear-armed power is “definitive and unchangeable.”
The Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, dismissed the calls for nuclear disarmament made during the 70th regular session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna as “empty and repetitive talk.”
Referring to North Korea by its official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), she stated, “The status of the DPRK as a nuclear-weapon state is definitive and unchangeable, and no factor can alter it.”
The IAEA General Conference, without any mention of Israel’s nuclear weapons arsenal in West Asia, expressed concern solely over the expansion of North Korea’s nuclear capabilities and urged Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear weapons program in a “complete, verifiable, and irreversible” manner, in line with adherence to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The sister of the North Korean leader rejected these demands, labeling them as “mere noise that is neither surprising nor new.”
She further stated, “Regardless of how intensely the IAEA and the West hold their periodic meetings and talk about nuclear disarmament according to a predetermined scenario, these actions will have no impact on the will and capability of the DPRK to adopt all necessary measures to defend the supreme interests of the country. The reality of the permanent consolidation of the DPRK’s nuclear status, both physically and legally, will not change even by an iota. No one and nothing can ever reverse or prevent fundamental changes in the strength and status of the DPRK in the future.”
