Trump Claims Iran Seeks Deal But Isn’t Ready, Repeats Strait of Hormuz Assertions
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran wishes to reach an agreement with Washington, but is not yet ready to do so. In an interview with ABC 11, Trump stated, “Iran wants to make a deal; in my opinion, they are not ready. We will either make a deal that is good or we will make no deal at all.”
The news outlet Axios reported, citing three sources, that Trump is expected to meet with representatives from six Gulf Cooperation Council member states—Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman— on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York. Trump further claimed, “We have already eliminated Iran’s ability to obtain nuclear weapons.” He continued his alleged statements, adding, “If we had not used the B-2 bombers, Iran would now have nuclear weapons.” Trump, who is under severe pressure due to his imprudent policies, asserted, “Iran is known worldwide as the worst country in the world, and this situation has been going on for a long time. We continue our work; they [Iranians] are in a very weak position.” He repeated his claims regarding the Strait of Hormuz, asserting, “We completely control the Strait of Hormuz. We target a number of ships almost every night because they don’t see anything. We destroyed their radars.” Trump claimed, “Their economy is in the worst condition it has ever seen, and they are facing inflation of over 300 percent. Their situation is chaotic, and we will see what happens.” He continued his delusions, adding, “We will win in the end. I don’t know if this victory will come through a deal or not, but we are already winning.” The expected meeting is anticipated to focus on Washington’s perspectives on post-war strategy and the next steps in the conflict. The U.S. State Department sent initial invitations on Wednesday, and the session may be expanded to include other Arab and Muslim leaders. Trump had expressed hope on Wednesday that Washington was moving “towards ending the war” and claimed that the U.S. had heard directly from Iran that Tehran sought a deal. Trump’s remarks come as the U.S. House of Representatives voted on Tuesday, 220 to 204, in favor of a resolution seeking to limit Trump’s authority to continue military operations against Iran. The bill, introduced by Democratic Representative Seth Moulton, mandates the U.S. government to withdraw its forces from military conflicts with Iran, except in specific defensive circumstances. Seven Republican representatives joined Democrats in supporting the resolution.
