Since the start of the current year, Russian forces have gained control over more than 5,300 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory and over 220 settlements.

The ministry issued a statement indicating that Russian operations to establish a security buffer zone in the border regions of Sumy and Kharkiv in Ukraine are continuing. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, its forces have reduced the area of Ukrainian-controlled territories in the northeastern Kharkiv region by 152 square kilometers since September 5, capturing nine settlements. In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that its forces are advancing along a broad front towards the city of Zaporizhzhia, bringing four settlements under their control since the beginning of September. The ministry added that clashes are ongoing in the central Orikhiv areas.
