Cuba Condemns Trump’s UN Accusations, Cites Sovereignty

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Cuban authorities have issued a strong response to allegations made by U.S. President Donald Trump during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly. Tensions remain high in Washington-Havana relations, and the Cuban delegation notably departed the assembly hall while Trump was speaking in New York.

Following Trump’s remarks targeting Havana, Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez emphasized his country’s sovereignty. He posted on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), stating that the U.S. government struggles to accept Cuba as a fully sovereign and independent nation, a status it rightfully holds. Rodríguez asserted that no false statements from the U.S. President at the UN could negate this reality. He further described Cuba as a peace-loving nation deserving of peace, speaking as the head of the Cuban delegation in New York.

In parallel, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel condemned what he termed Trump’s belligerent rhetoric. Writing on ‘X’, Díaz-Canel stated that the U.S. President, unable to justify the punishment of the Cuban people and the genocidal economic war against them, reiterated at the UN that Cuba is a threat. He concluded that falsehoods are the tool of those who refuse to accept the Cuban people’s right to self-determination.
