Iraq and Turkey Agree on Baghdad’s Sovereignty Over Sinjar Region

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Iraqi government has announced that Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have reached an agreement on the full expansion of the Iraqi government’s sovereignty in the Sinjar region. This understanding was reported by Al Jazeera network, citing Mehr News Agency.

The Iraqi government further stated that Turkish forces will gradually hand over the Bashiqa-Zelikan garrison to the Iraqi government, following a mechanism agreed upon by both parties. Specific details regarding this mechanism were not disclosed.

The meeting between Prime Minister Al-Zaidi and President Erdoğan took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
