Israeli Media Decries Netanyahu’s UN Speech as Emblematic of Isolation
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli media outlets have largely reacted negatively to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s speech at the United Nations General Assembly. The Hebrew-language newspaper ‘Yedioth Ahronoth’ characterized Netanyahu’s address as aggressive, arrogant, and devoid of any genuine vision, asserting that Netanyahu was speaking to a world no longer capable of hearing him.
The newspaper’s analysis of the speech’s text and related commentary reflected Netanyahu’s sharp remarks concerning the departure of international delegations. Hebrew media highlighted the mass walkout of diplomatic delegations at the moment Netanyahu took the podium, interpreting it as evidence of the profound international isolation facing Tel Aviv.
Several Hebrew newspapers and news websites reported that Netanyahu’s speech was primarily directed at the Israeli public for electoral gain. ‘Yedioth Ahronoth’ noted that Netanyahu’s use of fiery rhetoric was intended to generate video clips for subsequent use in the Likud party’s election campaign advertisements.
‘Yedioth’ further stated that the absence of meetings with U.S. administration officials, including Donald Trump, and the curtailment of his visit to just a few hours, transformed the international platform into more of an electoral rally for domestic audiences than a strategic diplomatic trip.
The Hebrew newspaper ‘Haaretz,’ while criticizing various aspects of the trip, focused on security warnings that led to the reduction of Netanyahu’s travel time, the lack of a political outlook post-war, and its impact on the Israeli regime’s international relations.
The website ‘Times of Israel’ pointed out that Netanyahu’s speech occurred weeks before Israeli elections and was crafted to align with Netanyahu’s need to regain political initiative and present himself as ‘Israel’s sole defender against the world,’ thereby centering the election battle around his persona and leadership.
Nevertheless, platforms affiliated with the Israeli regime’s far-right factions praised the controversial speech, portraying it as a demonstration of Netanyahu’s strength and resolve.
