Trump Urged Zelensky to Visit Moscow for Talks with Putin, Report Claims
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, citing a Bloomberg report published by Mehr News Agency, former U.S. President Donald Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to visit Moscow for a dialogue with Vladimir Putin during their recent meeting in New York. Zelensky, however, reportedly turned down the suggestion.
Trump extended this proposal during his September 22 meeting with Zelensky on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The former president allegedly encouraged Zelensky to travel to the Russian capital to discuss an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Sources close to the Ukrainian president indicated that Zelensky did not accept the proposal, and that Trump’s reiteration of such a suggestion caused him displeasure. This reported offer comes at a time when the Trump administration was attempting to facilitate direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Moscow has previously stated its readiness for Putin to meet with Zelensky in Moscow, while Kyiv has insisted on such a meeting taking place in a neutral location.
Despite these claims, the office of the Ukrainian President has refuted Bloomberg’s report, characterizing it as “false information.” Ukrainian officials stated that Trump and Zelensky discussed the possibility of trilateral negotiations involving the United States, Ukraine, and Russia. However, they asserted that Trump did not propose Zelensky’s trip to Moscow to meet Putin.
