Bangkok Faces Critical Flooding Amidst Widespread Deluge in Thailand

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Bangkok has been submerged by extensive flooding after nearly 300 millimeters of rain fell on the Thai capital since Thursday afternoon, according to local officials cited by Reuters. The deluge has caused widespread waterlogging of streets and thoroughfares, with water levels reaching approximately one meter in some districts, trapping numerous vehicles.

In response to the escalating situation, Bangkok authorities have initiated emergency measures to assist residents in affected areas, establishing temporary shelters for those displaced from their homes. Reports also indicate significant disruptions to urban transportation and commuting.

Concurrently, the Thai Meteorological Department has issued warnings of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall expected on September 26th and 27th. The forecast indicates that northern, northeastern, central regions including Bangkok, eastern, and southern Thailand will experience substantial downpours, with a risk of flash floods, overflowing waterways, and landslides.

The Thai government has reported that floods are currently ongoing in 21 provinces, impacting over 84,000 people. Government officials have also directed emergency forces and necessary equipment to be deployed around the clock in high-risk zones to monitor the conditions in flood-affected areas.

The Thai Meteorological Department stated that an active low-pressure system in the central region and around Bangkok is moving along the monsoon trough, while the strengthening of the southwest monsoon winds has intensified the rainfall. Thai officials are urging the public to heed weather warnings and avoid travel in areas prone to flooding and landslides.
