OIC and Arab League Denounce Israeli Repression in Jerusalem
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League have voiced strong opposition to the Israeli regime’s efforts to establish new facts on the ground in Jerusalem. This stance was articulated during a joint ministerial meeting focused on Jerusalem, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, the Secretary-General of the OIC, delivered a speech highlighting concerns over escalating attempts to alter the situation in Jerusalem through settlement expansion, land confiscation, forced displacement of Palestinians, and the implementation of the “E1” plan. He emphasized that these actions undermine the two-state solution and are aimed at isolating Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings.
The OIC Secretary-General urged the transformation of political positions into concrete actions to safeguard Jerusalem and support the resilience of its Palestinian inhabitants. He reiterated the importance of implementing the “New York Declaration,” advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Ould Cheikh Ahmed further affirmed the OIC’s commitment to coordinating its efforts with the Arab League and international partners to bolster support for Jerusalem and the Palestinian cause, while intensifying endeavors toward achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
In parallel, Nabil Fahmy, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, called upon the international community and the Security Council to move beyond mere condemnation and assume their responsibility in protecting Jerusalem and its holy sites. He stressed the imperative of compelling the Israeli regime to cease all settlement activities, expansionist pursuits, forced displacement, looting, and confiscation of Palestinian lands.
Fahmy declared the Arab League’s resolute opposition to any attempts to alter the geographical and demographic realities in the occupied Palestinian territories. He characterized the daily policies and actions of the Israeli regime as endeavors to change Jerusalem’s identity, essence, and its historical and legal status.
The Arab League Secretary-General also warned of the repercussions of the continued provocative actions and policies by the Israeli regime, including aggression against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and underscored the necessity for the international community to take practical steps to halt this trajectory.
