Kremlin: Ukraine Will Pay for Attacks, Arms Control Talks Urgent

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, stated on Monday that Ukraine will be held accountable for its attacks on Russia, and Russian forces will continue to pursue their objectives.

Peskov also stressed the immediate necessity of resuming arms control talks between Russia and the United States, noting that the legal and treaty framework in this area has been nearly dismantled. He added that negotiations on this matter would be complex, requiring significant time and extensive expert discussions.

Regarding the potential involvement of China in arms control negotiations, the Kremlin spokesperson commented that Beijing had previously indicated it did not consider its participation necessary or feasible due to the substantial difference between China’s nuclear arsenal and those of Russia and the United States. Moscow is not aware of any change in this stance.

Peskov further described the recent meeting between the foreign ministers of Russia and Germany as a “positive development,” but cautioned that it is too early to conclude that an immediate shift in relations between the two countries is forthcoming. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his German counterpart met in person on September 26, marking their first face-to-face encounter since January 2022.
