EU Gas and Diesel Prices Surge Over 100% Amidst Energy Crisis

The European Union is grappling with a severe energy crisis, as gas prices have surged by 140% and diesel by 100% since the beginning of the year, according to the European Commission.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the European Commission has acknowledged a significant increase in energy costs, with gas prices in the European Union rising by 140% and diesel by 100% since the start of the year. This information was reported by Al Jazeera.

Despite the alarming price hikes, a spokesperson for the European Commission stated that there are no immediate signs of a fuel supply risk in Europe. However, the crisis of rising prices has reportedly reached its peak.

The European Union has indicated its readiness to collaborate with the International Energy Agency on collective actions, including the potential release of fuel reserves. This move is part of coordinated efforts among EU member states that have been underway for several months.

A senior EU official emphasized that the Union’s discussions regarding fuel are independent of any U.S. threats. The official further noted that any potential ban on diesel would undermine the EU’s trust in the United States as a reliable partner.

The European Commission spokesperson also highlighted that the EU has been utilizing its oil reserves since March in coordination with the International Energy Agency. Decisions regarding the use of strategic oil reserves will be made by the International Energy Agency, with subsequent implementation coordinated among EU member states.
