Iraqi Cleric Vows Resistance to Foreign Dictates, Demands Retrieval of Iraqi Assets

A prominent Iraqi Shiite cleric has asserted that Iraq will not succumb to foreign dictates and called for the reclamation of the country’s assets and independent decision-making, warning against the use of a so-called ‘Abrahamic religion’ to advance normalization efforts.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, on [current date in 2026], a leading Shiite marja’ taqlid (source of emulation) in Iraq has called for the return of Iraq’s confiscated wealth and the restoration of the nation’s autonomy in decision-making. Sheikh Jawad al-Khalisi emphasized that Iraq will not yield to external diktats, stating that there is no neutrality when confronting right and wrong.

The cleric also issued a warning regarding the dangers of soft warfare and the exploitation of what is termed the ‘Abrahamic religion’ to push forward normalization agendas. Sheikh Jawad al-Khalisi, recognized as one of the founders of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, has maintained a stance of non-participation in the country’s political processes since the U.S. occupation, advocating instead for resistance against occupying forces.
